Record numbers of EU students are applying to De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) despite a marked decline across the sector.
The positive message of welcome, support and international study spelled out by DMU’s #LoveInternational campaign has chimed with European students left uncertain and confused following the EU Referendum.
New figures show that the numbers of applications to DMU from EU students are up 27%, compared to a national average of -6%. The number of EU students accepting at place at DMU is up 38% on 2016.
Nationally, the fall in the numbers of EU students applying to study in the UK was attributed to the referendum result and uncertainty around Brexit.

As part of the campaign, DMU students and staff met with prospective students in key EU countries – including Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden and Cyprus to answer their questions about studying in the UK.
A special #LoveEU bundle was also offered to students enrolling before the end of September which included coach pick ups, gym membership and tuition fees pegged at UK home-rates for September 2017 and January 2018.
Last week a study by the Leicester Castle Business School (LCBS) said international students could be worth more than £58million to the Leicester economy.
The report was released the day that Home Office was forced to admit that the number of international students overstaying their visas had been vastly overestimated.
