Emerging jazz band announced for DMU's international series

A unique collaboration between some of the foremost bandleaders and composers emerging from the thriving east London music scene is coming to De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) this June.

Led by pianist John Turville, ‘Solstice’ will play an exciting set at The Venue@DMU, the latest instalment in DMUmusic’s International Jazz Series.

Solstice

Following performances from Trish Clowes, Arun Ghosh, Tim Garland and Julien Siegel earlier in the year, the concert on Thursday 15 June at 8pm will offer another opportunity for staff, students and the local community to experience a fascinating musical genre right here on campus.

The band released their debut album ‘Alimentation’ in 2016, drawing influence from David Binney, Hermeto Pascoal and Bjork whilst maintaining a uniquely British identity.

The band consists of John on piano, Tori Freestone (saxophone and flute), Jez Franks (guitars), Dave Mannington (double bass) and George Hart on drums.

The group have toured with their own groups extensively throughout the UK, Europe and world with their own projects and artists and have come together through a shared love for music.
