One win from history: Men's Rugby Club reach first ever final


Rugby players at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) are just one win away from winning a major title, after securing a place at British University and College Sports (BUCS) Finals Day.

A well fought 26-20 victory for the men’s side against University of Nottingham 3rd on Wednesday is the furthest the side have ever gone in the competition and they will travel to Loughborough in a week’s time to face the University of Northampton 1st in the final.

And they could soon be joined by 3 other #TeamDMU sides that have semi-finals still to play this week.

Men’s Football 3rd who overcame University of Lincoln 2nd 5-3 on penalties after coming back from a goal behind in normal time, will face University of Northampton 3rd this Wednesday in their semi-final tie.

Women’s Rugby 1st and title winning Women’s Hockey 1st will also feature in their semi-final fixtures this Wednesday against Nottingham Trent 1st and University of Nottingham 6th respectively.

Meanwhile, there were some decisive BUCS league victories for our sides this week with title chances hanging in the balance.

Men’s football 3rd secured their 10th win of the season on Wednesday, beating Cranfield University 3rd, 3-2 leaving them just one win away from the title.

Men’s Basketball 1st still sit top of their BUCS Division despite a 61-55 defeat to University of Cambridge 2nd. They still have 2 games left to try and secure a league victory.

Men’s Hockey were defeated by top of the table Coventry 1st to harness their title chances, but they still have hopes of securing promotion at least.

Women’s Lacrosse, who are coming to the end of their first year as a club, won again leaving them top of the table despite 2nd place Oxford Brookes have 3 games in hand.

They thrashed University of Nottingham 4th 25-4, with one more opportunity to create a gap between them and their title opposition, before they wait for their rivals to slip up.

Men’s Tennis whitewash University of Nottingham 5th, 6-0 to remain top and complete their BUCS fixtures for the campaign. They will now sit and wait for the results of Oxford Brookes 2nd to come in, to determine their fate.

Netball secured a clean sweep, with all 4 sides victorious and ending their seasons in style.

Women’s 1st defeated University of Leicester 2nd, 65-27 while the 2nd team edged a tight game 45-43 against University of Lincoln 2nd.

The 3rd and 4th teams also won in their fixtures against University of Northampton 3rd and University of Bedfordshire (Luton) 4th respectively.

Overall this week, #TeamDMU secured 14 wins with 0 draws and 9 defeats, a winning rate of 61%.
