Lacrosse find their feet in stunning winning Wednesday for #TeamDMU

Sensational winning streak continues for De Montfort University Leicester (DMU)’s first ever Women’s Lacrosse team with 18-14 victory over rivals Derby.

The team, who have now won four of their last five British University and College Sports (BUCS) fixtures, are now on the hunt for top spot in Midlands Division 3A.

They face opposition below them in the table in their remaining two league fixtures, giving them hope they can clinch the title or at the very least, gain promotion.

1st team Captain Eleanor Davison, said: “We are continuing our amazing run and we are playing so well as a team.

“It was a close game for the first three quarters, but DMU were on fire in the fourth.

“We are looking onwards and upwards and we hope we can maintain our form, win our last two games and end the season as best we can.”

Eleanor got herself on the scoresheet on Wednesday alongside Laura Tingley, Lucy Frier and Emma Simpson, with assists from Emer Walsh also helping to secure the win.

It was also a great day for Men’s Football 2nd who smashed Nottingham Trent University 5th, 14-0 at Beaumont Park.

The win damns Nottingham to yet another heavy defeat, giving daylight between them and DMU, with a mid-table finish now looking likely for the 2nd team.

Elsewhere, the 3rd team clinched top spot in Midlands Division 5D with promotion almost secured. They face Lincoln 2nd on Wednesday 15 February, with a win cementing a top 2 finish.

Women’s Netball 1st continued their unstoppable form with a 55-36 victory over Anglia Ruskin (Cambridge) 1st at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre.

It’s been quite a remarkable title winning season for the team who will now start next season in tier 3.

Clubs made a stand against homophobia in sport this week, wearing their #DMUpride t-shirts ahead of fixtures.

The campaign which was launched on Monday at the Campus Centre prior to the weeks BUCS fixtures is always well supported by university sports clubs and this year was no different.
