A De Montfort University (DMU) graduate is paving the way for a promising future career thanks to the help of a nationwide employability scheme.
Pritesh Nathubhai is one of many graduates across the country reaping the benefits of Ambitious Futures, a scheme offering an opportunity to work on placements within the Higher Education sector.
The 23-year-old recently began a placement working in DMU’s Strategic and Planning Services Department, the first of three placements he will undertake during the 15-month programme.
Pritesh who graduated from the university with both an undergraduate degree in Business and Management BA (Hons) as well as a postgraduate degree in Strategic and Digital Marketing MSc, said: “When studying you don’t necessarily know how the Higher Education sector works and it’s great to see it from the other side.
“I am passionate about the sector and with the recent developments with Brexit and the HE bill, it is an ever-changing landscape which makes the experience even more enjoyable.”
Pritesh is currently working on projects which will enhance his employability once he completes the programme in December 2017.

These include analysing the recent Times Good University Guide, contributing to the submission for the Government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework and creating a new way for faculty staff to look at enrolment numbers.
During the placement, Pritesh will also complete a qualification in leadership and management awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), which runs parallel to the placement.
The qualification is coursework-based and gives individuals effective management and organisational skills and practices.
Employees on the scheme also have many opportunities to network thanks to membership to the Association of University of Administrators.
Pritesh said he was enjoying the experience so far.
He said: “Everyone on the scheme across the country has learning sets throughout the placement where we can talk about our experiences and share ideas.
“It really helps as you pick up new perspectives and you know you’re not doing this alone.”
The placement with DMU’s Strategic and Planning Services Department will run until January, where he will then move to the University of Nottingham to do a faculty based placement, before returning to DMU in June to complete his third placement
This is not the first time Pritesh has enhanced his employability with DMU, as he began his relationship with the university back in 2009 as a 16-year-old.
Then, he worked as a young researcher in the Health and Life Sciences (HLS) faculty looking at access to student employability and funding.
When at DMU as a student he also worked for the award-winning community outreach programme; DMU Square Mile and Leicester’s Curve Theatre through the university’s Frontrunner employability scheme.
The application for the current stage of Ambitious Futures closes this December and to be eligible for the scheme, entrants must have graduated from the university in the last five years from undergraduate or postgraduate study with at least a 2:1.
Staff who think they have a placement opportunity for a graduate trainee on the scheme should contact Amy Murphy, Organisational Development Facilitator at amy.murphy@dmu.ac.uk
