DMU reaffirms its commitment to Beaumont Park

Following a number of supportive messages received from parents, supporters and members of the local community, De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) today reaffirmed its commitment to the future of the Beaumont Park facilities and their use by Beaumont Town Football Club (BTFC).

DMU also reiterated in response to these messages that it was greatly saddened by recent events and in particular the fact that children in BTFC teams have not been able to play football at the ground in the last two days.

Its commitment to local football in Beaumont Leys and to BTFC is, however, as strong as ever but, as stated in our statement of November 15, DMU is no longer able to work with the current General Secretary, Nick Langton, who we do not feel acts in the interests of BTFC and the wider community.

Due to recent events, DMU regrets that it is unfortunately unable to guarantee the health and safety of users of the Beaumont Park facilities and that they will therefore be closed to all users - including students and staff of DMU - until further notice. DMU is, however, making every effort to resolve this matter as quickly as possible so that all users are able to enjoy the facilities at Beaumont Park again.

James Gardner, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Strategic and International Partnerships), said: "Partnerships like the one we have with BTFC are the cornerstone of what we believe a 21st-century university should be about. We are saddened therefore that recent events should have caused upset and disappointment in the local community.

"However, messages of support from parents, supporters and members of the community have signalled that there are a great many who appreciate the investment we have made in Beaumont Park and who can see the mutual benefits that partnership can bring. We appeal to them to contact us to help ensure a bright and positive future for Beaumont Park."

DMU has asked parents and supporters of BTFC to get in touch with ideas and suggestions about developments at the following address: sports.enquiries@dmu.ac.uk
