De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has reassured parents and supporters of Beaumont Town Football Club (BTFC) that it is working to rebuild the partnership with the club following recent events.
DMU has met with Leicester City Council and parents and supporters of BTFC to establish a way forward. The agreement between the university and BTFC means shared access to the facilities, pitches, club house and changing rooms which have been refurbished and developed by DMU.
DMU has ensured that costs to the club to use and enjoy the enhanced facilities remained as they were before the extensive refurbishment was completed. The university also pays for insurance, maintenance and investment in equipment for the site so that the costs to parents could remain the same as before. The university is unable to respond to concerns expressed about rising costs to parents following DMU’s involvement in the site, except to confirm that it has placed no additional financial burden on the club.

The university also confirmed that it would re-open Beaumont Park as soon as possible after it addressed safety and security concerns following a demonstration last week.

DMU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Strategic and International Partnerships) James Gardner said: “We have made it clear from the outset that we have no issue with Beaumont Town Football Club itself, its parents and supporters. However, we would like to ensure our partnership is built on a sure and sustainable footing so that the club, the local community and the university itself can reap the benefits of our considerable investment in Beaumont Park.
“We would like to thank the Council for convening the meeting and parents for meeting with us and we look forward to building a partnership of trust, respect and mutual benefit for the future.”
