Questions posed by curious BBC viewers about photography have been answered on a new online learning site by a De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) academic.
Dr Kelley Wilder,
Director of the Photographic History Research Centre, was approached to contribute to the BBC’s interactive learning series, iWonder.
iWonder is a series of interactive guides which aims to support the BBC’s factual and education programming. It is curated by experts such as Dr Wilder and BBC editorial staff.
Dr Wilder’s curated article explores early camera images, X-rays, baby ultrasound and even the first direct image of the atom.
She also explores how photographs can demonstrate how areas will change over time, and capture events.
Dr Wilder said: “It's great that photography features alongside Shakespeare, David Attenborough, love and happiness as one of the things we should wonder about."
The iWonder site is an extension of PHRC's BBC Radio 3 series,
Five Photographs That Changed Everything, which was broadcast on The Essay last year.
