Hundreds of people enjoyed a day of fun in the sun at an event which aimed to bring the community together and enjoy lunch in a city park.
About 500 people headed to Rally Park in Leicester on Sunday to enjoy family activities including arts, crafts and games.
DMU Square Mile supported the event by hiring bouncy castles for youngsters, and handing out free water and juice – which proved popular as the temperatures soared. There was also a free barbecue, birds of prey display, and crafts and face painting for the younger ones.
The annual event is run by the All Nation Centre in Frog Island, Leicester, has grown year on year since it began in 2010 to become a popular fixture on the community’s calendar.
People of all ages were there to enjoy the events, make new friends and soak up the sunshine.
DMU volunteer co-ordinator Amir Mahmood said: “Our volunteers were rushed off their feet all day. It’s always a great event and brings the community together. We got told that our students were the saviours of the day at one point because it was so hot and they were handing out the drinks!”
Steve Clarke, of the All Nations Centre, said: ’This is a fantastic day, the weather certainly helps, but to see the local community families come out year after year and enjoy the fun and games is very exciting. We love it and can’t wait for next year. ”
