Sixth form students visited De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) to take part in a game that aims to showcase career opportunities in public sector finance.
The Management Team Games are devised and run by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
Students are challenged to become part of a management team in a fictional housing association.
During the day, they face a host of difficult decisions as they try to balance the books amid increasing pressures. The challenge aims to strengthen teamwork, leadership, management and organisational skills.
The games are intended to help fill a gap in business studies courses taught at A-level, which concentrate on commercial activities and often do not cover the public sector.
Pupils from Southfield School, Kettering; Montsaye Academy, Rothwell; Countesthorpe College, Leicestershire; Ashby School, Leicestershire; and Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College, Leicester, took part. The winners were Ashby School.

Mark Lovell, of CIPFA, said: "This is the 11th year of running the Management Team Games and this year has been the most successful yet.
"The students were very engaged, they thoroughly enjoyed the activities throughout the day and they are able to take away key skills that they can then apply to their studies and hopefully later on in a career in public services."
Students said they enjoyed taking part in the event. Shiv Popat, of Montsaye Academy, said: "The Management Games at DMU were great fun and an excellent experience of finding out more about finance in the public sector."
Teigan Wilkins, of Southfield School, added: "It was a really enjoyable day that enabled me to build on my employability skills and it also provided me with experience in finance for the future."
