DMU graduates' job prospects well above national average, new figures show

More than 95% of De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) graduates from summer 2015 are in work or further study after graduating, according to the annual Destination of Leavers in Higher Education (DHLE) report published today.

The poll, which surveys higher education institutions around the UK, placed DMU in the top 50 universities with the best employment rates, well above the national average of 93.9%.

It is the third year in a row that DMU has been placed in the top 50 universities with the best outcomes for graduates. More than three quarters were in graduate level jobs. The DLHE figures were published just weeks after the Times Higher Education’s recent mock TEF assessment which named DMU as an ‘exceptional performer’ in graduate employability, placing it first among all UK universities in this category.
DMU also outperformed expectations set by the Higher Education Statistics Agency. It predicted 92.2% of DMU graduates would be in work or further study – demonstrating the value DMU can add to students’ learning and experience.

DMU has embedded employability across all of its courses and created innovative opportunities for graduates to gain paid work experience and CV-boosting skills.
Students can take advantage of quality placements for a year or undertake shorter, international internships with the university’s award-winning overseas programme #DMUglobal.
Graduates can join DMU Graduate Champions to gain a CV-boosting work placement in business, with DMU paying the Living Wage, or continue their education through its VC2020 Scholarship programme.

DMU graduates have gone on to careers with global corporations such as Warner Bros, Porsche, Aston Martin, GlaxoSmithKline and Nike. Others have become entrepreneurs, gaining support from DMU’s dedicated start-up support team.
Many DMU courses are accredited by professional bodies including the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ); the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) - endorsing the industry-standard teaching and facilities available.
DMU works closely with De Montfort Students’ Union to promote employability programmes to its thousands of students. From mentoring to CV polishing, job opportunities and the chance to take on roles by joining clubs and societies or volunteering, the DSU aims to help students make the most of their time at university.
