It attracts ambitious students who want to make a difference whether that is through getting involved in life-changing research, learning from award-winning lecturers or joining volunteering opportunities.

And that determination is reflected in the work of students on courses run by the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

DMU has been named by The Times and The Sunday Times University Guide as being in the top 40 best places to study Forensic Science, Nursing and Social Work.

Students get the chance to work on projects that benefit the community, underlining their theoretical studies with practical patient-led work.

Nursing students enjoy placements in hospitals, housing projects and residential care; Forensic Science students are challenged to take part in international community improvement projects and Social Work students have volunteered for charities and organisations working with vulnerable adults, older people and in mental health.

They share their skills with the community – nursing students went to primary schools to teach young people about first aid; Forensic Science students travelled to India to build washrooms in schools, transforming children’s lives and Social Work students have volunteered with charities across Leicestershire.

All three courses are professionally accredited and boast an enviable employability record with 100 per cent of students in full-time employment or further study within six months of graduating.
