Leicester Tigers’ half-time challenge, The Big Boot, has been won by the De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) men’s rugby team.

The competition saw challengers take part throughout the season in teams of 10, taking turns to catch balls that had been fired high into the sky by Tigers’ Big Boot.

No team managed to achieve a perfect score during the season, with DMU men’s Rugby’s score of 7/10 at the Aviva Premiership game against Saracens in November enough to earn them the title of Big Boot champions for 2015.

A Tigers spokesman said: “The Big Boot has provided great entertainment throughout the season. Everyone who has taken part has received great support from the crowd, no matter how many or how few catches they’ve made.

“One of the highlights of the year was seeing the team of local clergy from the Richard III Community Appeal taking part in cassocks – and thoroughly enjoying themselves too.

“We also congratulate the team from De Montfort University who topped the leader board at the end of the season. Seven catches was a very impressive total, especially on such a wet and windy afternoon. Their gesture of passing their £100 bonus prize money to charity was very generous and very well received too.”

The men’s rugby society is overseen by De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) which now offers students more than 120 societies as well as 40 sports clubs to choose from in order to enhance their experience whilst studying at DMU.
