It was a proud night at Leicester’s Y Theatre for Demon Media last weekend, especially for all those who picked up one of the coveted prizes.
The NUS award-winning Demon Media is the student-led media group for De Montfort University (DMU) Leicester.
Offering students the opportunity to develop their media skills in TV, radio, online and print, the group consists of The Demon newspaper, Demon Online, Demon TV and Demon FM, which broadcasts to the whole of Leicester on a community license.
Awards were presented for a wide range of categories across all four main areas of Demon Media’s work reporting on areas important to DMU students.
The top ‘Demon of the Year’ accolade, which honours the most significant, all-round contribution to the work of Demon Media went to final-year Drama student, Hannah Gorzelak, who also picked up the ‘Best Off-Screen Female’ award as head of Demon TV, which claimed Demon Media ‘Best Strand’ award.
“Working as part of Demon Media has not only benefited my career no end, it has been an incredibly fun and rewarding experience,” said Hannah.
“I have had access to some incredible opportunities and met wonderful people, who I'm sure will be friends for a long time. I've always been more than happy to go the extra mile for Demon Media and my time at university would not have been the same without it.”
Reflecting on the awards ceremony, Adam Redfern, Vice President Media & Communications and a member of the De Montfort Students Union (DSU) executive team, said: “Our Demon Media members got the night they deserved for their hard work – it has been a great year for us. Congratulations to everyone who has dedicated their time to this talented media group. I can’t thank them all enough.”
Demon Media are looking for new members for the next academic year.
