More than 8,000 flickering flames are due to illuminate the streets around Leicester Cathedral tonight in a stunning commemoration of the reinterment of King Richard III.
The event – entitled Leicester Glows – will see a trail of the thousands of small flames lighting up Jubilee Square, Cathedral Gardens and streets in The Lanes, along with a breath-taking trail of fire sculptures from 6pm to 10pm.
Leicester Glows will be a spectacular and serene ending to a series of events that will have seen King Richard III’s remains laid to rest at Leicester Cathedral yesterday.
The free event is being run by Big Difference Company, Fireworxx and Bright Spark.
DMU graduate - and one of the university's honorands - Dr Geoff Rowe BEM is CEO of Big Difference Company. He said: "We are honoured and thrilled to have been commissioned to produce this unique and exciting event to make a historic week for Leicester.
"We have worked on major outdoor events before, including the public celebrations for when the Paralympic Torch left Stoke Mandeville for London 2012.
"As a Leicester-based organisation, we are excited about bringing the internationally-respected Fireworxx to the city for what will be a beautiful and magical event."
