A trek across the Arctic Circle would certainly have been quite a way down on the list of expectations upon acquiring a new job, but that is exactly what one De Montfort University Leicester graduate is about to embark upon.
After managing to get herself a job before even graduating with Leicester based Hopwood, a public relations company, Danii Griffiths now finds herself preparing for a 160 kilometre quest through temperatures of minus 20 degrees.
Alongside her fellow adventurers and a team of huskies, the trek, which is part of Hopwood’s 25th anniversary celebrations, is being conducted in an effort to raise money for the Care4Paws appeal.
The Care4Paws appeal aims to raise funds to build a state-of-the-art vet facility at the RSPCA Woodside Animal Centre, in Scudamore Road, which is a client of Hopwoods.
Danii, who graduated from DMU after studying English and Media Communications, is taking part in the intrepid journey with six other explorers from the animal centre.
The charity is close to Danii's heart as she recently adopted her own loveable husky Dexter from Woodside.

Danii said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, but when the opportunity came up I just couldn’t say no.
“Woodside Animal Centre work hard to care for sick and mistreated animals in the area. I recently adopted my own husky, Dexter, from the centre, and I’m grateful for the care they gave him when he needed it.”
In addition to contending with the toe-numbing temperatures, Danii and her team of adventurers will have to set up and prepare their camps everyday while finding a way to feed themselves and their army of huskies as they aim to travel 37 miles a day on sleds across Norway and Sweden. Their mammoth journey will come to an end at the original Ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi.
Danii already has the support of local bar the Orange Tree, in High Street, Leicester, which has hand-crafted a charity cocktail called the ‘Arctic Split’ to mark the occasion.
This challenge is just one of 25 events happening this year to mark Hopwood PR’s 25th Anniversary. The company have already begun celebrating with an epic charity cycle challenge and the Leicester Big Knit. Events still to come include a sky dive, a 5k run and a swap shop.
Danii’s arctic challenge beings on March 29 and you can help the team raise money for their much needed new veterinary facilities at: www.justgiving.com/daniigriffiths.
