The new agreement will mean that students from Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia (MAUÁ) can progress on to the final year of three Economics degree programmes in the Faculty of Business and Law at DMU.

Initial links with MAUÁ in 2014 were set up to support students coming to DMU through the Brazilian government’s Science without Borders (SwB) scheme, along with summer school, exchange and research opportunities.

These links paved the way for the recent signing of a General Progression Agreement (GPA) in Business and Economics, helping form a solid and sustainable international partnership for DMU, as part of the university’s expanding global network.

James Gardner, DMU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor of Strategic and International Partnerships, said: “I am extremely pleased we have forged such a significant international partnership with MAUÁ.

“This is an important opportunity to continue welcoming Brazilian students to our university, adding to the rich diversity already on campus.”

Students from the Brazilian institution are already set to progress to DMU this September.

Professor Marcello Nitz, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at MAUÁ, who visited DMU, said: “Brazil’s Science without Borders programme created a great environment for international study, and Brazilian students are continually seeking ways to study overseas.

"By signing this agreement with DMU, we are offering our students a valuable opportunity at a quality university.

"I look forward to developing this partnership in the future.”

MAUÁ, located in São Paolo, specialises in business administration, among its undergraduate programmes, and was founded in 1961.

Parmijit Kaur, DMU’s subject leader for Economics, said: “This is the first international progression link for DMU’s Economics degree, and it is fantastic that this is with MAUÁ; such a high-quality private institution in Brazil.

"I look forward to enhancing our international portfolio and diversifying our student cohort through this partnership.”
