Thousands of DMU students graduated in July after years of hard work. We reported some of their stories in our Class of 2015 series...
Just two days after her final exam, De Montfort University, Leicester (DMU) graduate Ellie Wells had already bagged a top job with supermarket giant Asda.
The Accounting and Business Management BA (Hons) student had barely finished her final year’s work when she heard she had aced her interview for a merchandising position for George, the chain’s clothing brand, at its Lutterworth headquarters.
It made her graduation this week a real celebration, having seen her hard work rewarded with a prime job in her chosen field.
Speaking after the ceremony at Leicester’s Curve theatre, she said: “I had my interview at Asda two days after finishing my final exam and heard soon after.
“It was brilliant. I’ve been there eight weeks already and it’s just such a great company. Working for a brand like George is exactly what I was hoping to do.”
Ellie graduated from her course with a 2:1 and said the multi-cultural environment at DMU had “opened her mind” and given her invaluable experience.
She said: “Being at DMU has been really rewarding. The whole graduation has been enjoyable; it’s so nice to have all my family here with me.
“It’s definitely been hard work and there are, on this course, a lot of people with different backgrounds, from different cultures and countries.
“I think my experience growing up was quite narrow and spending so much time with so many different people has really opened my mind and helped me understand so much.”
Ellie’s graduation was one of 15 ceremonies taking place at the Leicester theatre over the week as thousands of DMU students celebrate their success with families and friends.
DMU is a truly global organisation, welcoming more than 2,700 international students from more than 130 different countries. This year DMU was named in the top 25 UK universities with the best employment rates, with more than 95% of graduates from summer 2014 in work or further study – higher than the national average of around 93%.
