De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) Biomedical Sciences graduate Anmol Thakor always knew he wanted to continue study in the field through a master’s degree - he just wasn’t sure when would be the best time.

He said: “I was thinking of getting experience of working in laboratories before I did the master’s but when I found out I could do it for half the price straight away, there was no decision to make. The scholarship represents a huge saving.”

The Vice-Chancellor’s 2020 Scholarship was launched by DMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard as a commitment to helping the university's graduates enhance their careers and personal development through further study.

The scholarship offers a tuition fee discount of up to 50 per cent to recent Home/EU DMU graduates who achieved a 2:1 or above to continue their studies at DMU by enrolling on a postgraduate taught course.

Alongside the cost-saving aspect of the Vice-Chancellor’s 2020 Scholarship, Anmol says there are other reasons why staying on at DMU was so attractive, not least the opportunity to build on the relationship he already had with his tutors.

He said: “The really good thing about the DMU course is that laboratories want seniors who are specialists in everything, not just one thing, and that is what the course provides.

“In this day and age, it is getting so much harder to get a job. The more qualifications you have under your belt, the better it is going to be.”
