Two De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) students beat hundreds of entrants to make the shortlist for national design awards at this year's Clothes Show Live.
The third year students, on DMU’s renowned Fashion Design BA (Hons), were selected from hopeful young designers around the country who entered the fashion awards held annually at Clothes Show Live, at NEC Birmingham.
SHORTLIST: Demi Womack (above) and Helena Megson (below)
Demi Womack and Helena Megson saw their designs on the catwalk at Tuesday’s search for the best young designers. Just 10 designers from schools, college and universities around the UK were shortlisted for the prestigious competition, sponsored by Olympus Pen. Both were just pipped to the post by Rebecca Carrington.
And DMU’s third year Fashion Design students held a pop up shop throughout the five-day run of the Clothes Show Live, at the NEC Birmingham.
They will be helping to fund raise for money towards their Graduate Fashion Week show in London next year. Their pop up shop showcases stunning designs, look books and goodies to buy with all funds going towards the show.
Demi’s designs are inspired by street wear from Tokyo. Demi, from Middlesbrough, said: “I chose this trend because I thought it was interesting people were wearing onesies and things you’d wear in bed as outerwear.
“I’ve used materials such as rag rugging and lots of detail but tried to use comfy fabrics."
The Clothes Show Live features huge names in the fashion world such as Hilary Alexander OBE, Caryn Franklin MBE as well as up and coming designers and X Factor stars.
There is an exhibition of Liberty, fashion seminars, a Paparazzi Pen featuring Joey Essex, Jamie Laing and Rae Morris and interviews with rising stars. Last year DMU student Amy Jordan was named the winner of the Clothes Show Live’s Made in Britain competition with her jaunty festive jumper.
