De Montfort University in Partnership with Navrang Arts presents a programme of events to provide conclusion and reflection to Rebuilding Lives: 50 Years of Ugandan Asians in Leicester and furthers discussion on migrant experience, their children and families, sharing stories and research on the current picture in the UK, in our city and in the future. Changing Lives, Changing Leicester is a programme with an academic focus which celebrates the exhibition and discusses legacy, sharing stories and personal experiences.

 

Session One: Gathering Perspectives

12.00 - 15.00

A tour of the Uganda 50 exhibition, followed by a poetry recital and voices of Ugandan Asians from the Leicestershire archives with Colin Hyde.

 

Session Two: Gathering Academic Perspectives

15.00 - 17.30

 Presenting a range of research and viewpoints to highlight both the stories of the exhibition and the wider experience of refugees in the community and society. Presentation from Navrang Arts on the making of the exhibition.

 

Session Three: Gathering Stories

17.30 - 20.30

Sharing experiences around being a child or grandchild of Ugandan Asians, facilitated by Nisha Patel. Keynote by Manzoor Moghal, MBE. Panel on 'belonging', covering topics such as identity.
