As part of De Montfort University's Black History Month programme:
Prof Nate Holder BA (Hons), MMus is a musician, author, public speaker and music education consultant based in London. He has an extensive career in music, having performed and recorded with Ghetts, Emeli Sandé and Ed Sheeran, and has also consulted for the BBC, Hal Leonard Europe and Collins Music.
In his talk, he will discuss how the terms 'decolonise' and 'decolonising' have entered mainstream discussion in studies of music over the last few years. With other terms such as diversity, inclusion and whiteness occupying similar spaces, he will question how does decolonisation differ? What could decolonisation mean in teaching and learning about music?
Join us for this exciting discussion, in which Professor Holder will give a special live performance, discuss the issues and practicalities in decolonising music and also take part in a panel discussion about race within the arts.
Places can be booked up to one hour before the event starts and registrants will receive a link to join or confirmation up to 24 hours before the event, and although audience members will not have audio rights there will be the opportunity to post questions and comments in the chat function.
