International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2021, VAWG (Violence Against Women & Girls) allies book club event.
DMU Women will be marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with an Allies book club event. Co-facilitated by Di Turgoose from the School of Applied Social Sciences in the HLS Faculty and James Evans from the Strategic Planning Service, the purpose of the event is to call in allies to end VAWG by discussion of Vera-Gray's book The Right Amount of Panic: How Women Trade Freedom for Safety.
To aid the discussion we would suggest you ideally read the introduction and first chapter of this book and the e-book is available for loan on the DMU Library Catalogue here.
This session is a follow up to the “She was just walking home” Violence Against Women: What do we Need to Challenge and Change? event that we held earlier this year in response to the murder of Sarah Everard. With the recent murder of Sabina Nessa this topic is at the forefront of discussions and we feel there is a need to continue our dialogue with regards to this important issue.
This event is only open to staff and students.
