As part of an ONLINE series of lectures to mark International Awareness Days, we are pleased to invite you on 7 June at 1pm to a lecture by Professor Parvez Haris for World Food Safety Day.
Rice is the staple diet for over half the world’s population. In recent years, concerns have been raised regarding high concentration of toxic chemicals in rice including arsenic. There are also worries that eating large quantities of rice can lead to the development of diabetes. Professor Parvez Haris, Professor of Biomedical Science, has been doing research on rice for many years and his team was the first to demonstrate that eating rice increases human exposure to arsenic (https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2011/em/c0em00482k#!divAbstract). He will present a lecture discussing food safety issues related to rice and how we can reduce our risks and still enjoy eating the world’s most consumed cereal.
Bookings will close 1 hour prior to the start of the event, and registrants will receive a link to join the online event 24hrs before the event, via their provided email address.
