Jenkin van Zyl (b. 1993, UK) is an artist and filmmaker based in London with a multidisciplinary practice comprising film, performance, writing, and sculpture. Utilising live art, trans- and inter-medial practices, costume, and prosthetics, van Zyl engages with questions around gender, queerness, and violence. He describes his work as “like having fun with things that hurt you”, and as an “opportunity for fantasy in the everyday”. Van Zyl’s film installation Looners – which was filmed in the ruins of a fortress in the Atlas Mountains – was shown at The Hayward Gallery’s exhibition Kiss My Genders in 2019. Van Zyl’s work, including immersive film and sound installations, sculptures, and environments such as Working Title (2015), Escape from Fort Bravo (2016), OBLIVION INDUSTRY (2019), Cabin Pressure (2020), and In Vitro (2020), have been screened and exhibited internationally, including at: Amanda Wilkinson Gallery, The Horse Hospital, and Royal Academy, London; Antwerp Queer Arts Festival; Glasgow International Festival; and Pompidou Centre, Paris. https://www.jenkinvanzyl.co.uk/home, Instagram: @jenkinvanzyl
