Andrew Logan belongs to a unique school of English eccentrics. One of Britain’s principal sculptural artists, he challenges convention, mixes media and plays with our artistic values.
In addition to sculpture Andrew has worked across the fields of stage design, drama, opera, parades, festivals and interior design. To him, “Art can be discovered anywhere,” and his work is the art of popular poetry and metropolitan glamour. From his early fame amongst London’s fashionable crowd, he has become an influential artist of international stature.
The Alternative Miss World will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and it was on 25 March 1972 that Andrew acted as Host and Hostess at his first, intimate, Andrew Logan’s Alternative Miss World. The Alternative Miss World is a surreal art event based on an idea which came from Crufts Dog Show. It is not about beauty – it’s about transformation – and when it comes to costumes, anything goes. Contestants over the years have been famous and infamous, a parade of show-offs and drag queens.
Whether sculpting in glass, bejewelling the rich and famous, or hosting the outrageous Alternative Miss World, Andrew’s trademark is clear: a celebration of colour, invention and nerve.

Andrew joins Dr Allan Taylor, Associate Professor in Media Production, in conversation and there will be an opportunity for you to put your own questions to Andrew.
