Description

DMU Congress to Campus will take place virtually this year. The focus will be on the outcome and consequences of what is, without exaggeration, the most important US election of the modern era. Taking place during an unprecedented public health and economic crisis, along with racial and social unrest and the threat of foreign interference, polling day 2020 will be keenly observed across the globe.

To talk us through the results and their meaning for US politics and policy over the coming months and years are the Honorable George Holding (R-NC) and The Honorable Loretta Sanchez (D-CA)

George Holding entered Congress in 2013 and is standing down this year. He serves on the Committee on Ways and Means, the Budget Committee and the Ethics Committee. He focuses on issues related to taxation, trade, fiscal responsibility and foreign affairs and has a particular interest in transatlantic relations.

Loretta Sanchez beat one-time Republican presidential hopeful Bob Dornan in 1997 to enter Congress, leaving in 2017 to run for the US Senate seat won by Kamala Harris. Her service on Armed Services & Homeland Security Committees was complemented by interests in education, crime, economic development, and protections for senior citizens.

The event will be chaired by Clodagh Harrington and will include a Q&A session.

Registrants will receive a link to join the online talk 24hrs before the event, via their provided email address. Please contact the DMU Events Office on eventsoffice@dmu.ac.uk if you have any questions.
