Giuliana is Senior Lecturer in Digital Journalism and Media Discourse at De Montfort University. Between 2015-2018, Giuliana worked at the University of Sheffield. She was a lecturer and teacher in Digital Society at the Department of Sociological Studies in 2015-2016 and 2017-2018, and in 2017 she worked on digital communication in crisis situations as Research Associate of the Information School. Giuliana taught Sociology and Media at the University of Glasgow from 2009 to 2014, and she carried out her doctoral research at the Glasgow University Media Group.

Research interests/expertise

Giuliana's research examines the role of the media in social change processes. This research focuses on news media, digital media, normative models of journalism, and strategic communication for social change. This work aims to contribute to the analysis and reform of media's role in shaping discourses and practices during periods of social transformation and instability.

CPD & training innovation:

2021-22: inaugurating the new module on Journalism for Change, for professional training dedicated to constructive practices of journalism for peace, justice, and UNSDG16. 

2021 Knowledge Engagement and Knowledge Transfer event, in collaboration with Dr Ruta Furmonaviciene, to discuss myths and facts of vaccination & the role of correct information in society, with journalism and biomedical students. Video and material produced: Vaccination Myths and Facts video.

2020 Seed Grant Sustainable DMU project: pilot training of constructive journalism & UNSDG16, with UG & PG journalism students, including guest workshop with John Harris (The Guardian)
