Personal profile

Bilal is an Electrical and Electronic Engineering academic, researcher, and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), with more than 13 years of university teaching experience across the United Kingdom and Iraq. Bilal'sresearch focuses on advanced control systems, nonlinear model predictive control, trajectory optimization, and energy-efficient autonomous UAVs. Bilal is a Lecturer at De Montfort University and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Leicester, contributing to the delivery of modules in robotics, artificial intelligence, machine vision, control engineering, electronics, mechatronics, programming, and engineering design.

Prior to moving to the UK, he served as a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at Sulaimani Polytechnic University for almost a decade. During this time, I taught a broad range of engineering subjects, supervised undergraduate projects, developed laboratory activities, and contributed to research and curriculum enhancement. My industrial experience as a commissioning engineer and embedded systems developer has also enabled me to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical engineering applications.
Bilal's research has resulted in multiple journal and conference publications in areas including autonomous systems, embedded technologies, smart energy management, and UAV control. I am passionate about delivering an engaging, inclusive, and research-informed learning experience that empowers students to develop both technical expertise and professional confidence.

Through teaching, research, and industry engagement, I aim to contribute to the advancement of engineering education and the development of innovative technologies that address real-world challenges in automation, energy, and intelligent systems.
