Personal profile

Dr. Allan Taylor is Head of Leicester Media School and Associate Professor of Media Production. Allan specialises in civic and business engagement in the creative industries, having produced events like Leciester Creative Expo and acted as a consultant for the British Council on its Creative Spark programme in Kazakhstan, where he worked with universities in Central Asia to introduce creative enterprise to the curriculum. He works very closely with regional businesses to enhance outcomes for the creative industries, as well as strengthening employability across the media suite of programmes.

His published research is at the intersections of visual culture, media and performance, particularly in performativity, gender and new media. His debut monograph – Authenticity As Performativity On Social Media (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) – develops a new critical framework for authenticity and social media practice.

Allan teaches creative enterprise, media entrepreneurship, promotional media production, photography and cultural studies on the media programmes, and welcomes expressions of interest from PhD students across all of these areas.
