Personal profile

As Head of Careers and Professional Development in the Business and Law School at DMU, Leena has a keen interest in business education and the role of business schools in educating and training future business talent. She has achieved Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) status through the Chartered Association for Business Schools demonstrating a commitment to CPD.

Leena is passionate about the student experience and is currently a doctoral candidate with the Leicester Castle Business School exploring the lived experiences of students from under-represented groups in Higher Education. She has a Postgraduate qualification in Coaching (Distinction) and holds a number of professional qualifications. She is a member of the British Psychological Society qualified to administer, interpret and assess candidates using a range of psychometric tools. Her background in recruitment and selection is complemented by her training as an Executive Career Coach  accredited by the Association of Coaching. She is also a Certified Strengths Based Coaching & Interviewing practitioner, trained by leaders in the field StrengthScope and uses strengths based approaches to support students and teams at work.

Leena draws on a wealth of experience from her talent development background gained across the private, public, not for profit sectors and most recently within Higher Education. Leena has designed and delivered high quality professional development programmes for world leading business schools and is passionate about closing the gap between university and the workplace. She places the student experience at the centre of her design work and aims to create memorable student experiences. She chairs the faculty Employability & Graduate Outcomes Group, is a member of the DMU Critrical Friends Group assessing the University Race Equality action plan and contributes to a number of faculty and university commitees, analysing data and using the data to inform action plans. 

 Leena has collaborated with leading graduate employers  across a variety of industry sectors to ensure the voice of industry is represented within the curriculum and regularly contributes to teaching on undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programmes.  She has supported students transition into global organisations and is passionate about ensuring students in the Business and Law school have opportunities to connect with industry, build lifelong friendships and remain a part of the university community long after graduation.

Research interests/expertise

Leena interests include: Student Engagment & Experience, the intersection of class, gender and ethicity in early career transitions, The hidden job market, Diversity and Inclusion within HE and the Graduate Labour Market. 

As a Doctoral Candidate  Leena is passionate about closing the gap between university and the workplace, especially for students from under represented groups, and this is a key focus of her research.
