Personal profile

Professor Christine White is Associate Dean Academic working with Faculty and students in Arts, Design and Humanities on all matters related to their studies and achievements.

She has held a number of management positions across six higher education institutions and a number of portfolios including international recruitment and research.

She is a designer who has worked in a number of contexts from live performance, film and art installations. She has published eight books and contributes to other publications including as co-editor of 'Scene'.

She reviews for a number of publishers and research councils including the Arts and Humanities Peer Review College.

Research interests/expertise

Christine has researched and has expertise in the creative arts having worked in professional theatre and performance, as well as being a designer, performer director and film producer. She regularly presents her work at international conferences.

Professor White has supervised a number of PhD students who work internationally both in academia and industry, and she welcomes PhD applications allied to her subject specialisms and research publications.

Qualifications

Christine studied her Ph.D. at Goldsmiths University, London and her undergraduate at the University of Kent. She has qualifications in film production, drama and theatre studies, e-moderating, stone carving and mandarin.

Visiting Professor of Art and Design at Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, China.

2014 – 2017 Executive member for Derby Theatre Senior Management.

2013 – 2018: Deputy Chair and Member of the Board of Trustees DerwentWISE.

2011 - 2017: Member of the Board of Trustees Déda, the Dance Centre for Derby and the East Midlands.

2005 - present: Reviewer for the following publishers: Palgrave, Intellect; Taylor & Francis; Routledge; Focal Press.

Projects

Christine is currently working on a teaching project with Architecture, Visual Arts and Foundation Art and Design reviewing with colleagues in Library and Study Services a number of tools to support student learning. These include online project planning, RefWorks, and interactive tables for peer and academic feedback. This is a Teaching Innovation Funded Project.

Christine is Project Director for e-Assessment and e-Feedback looking at current practice across the university with a view to sharing best practice and strengthening support for these areas.

Consultancy work

She is External Examiner, Escuela Autonoma De Dirrecion De Empresas (EADE), Malaga, BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. She has worked as an examiner for programmes in India, China and the UK.

Current research students

Christine is interested in supervising students in subjects related to design in creative and performance contexts.
