Brian graduated from De Montfort University in 1991 with a First Class Honours Degree in Interior Design, when it was Leicester Polytechnic and has been involved with the subject area ever since, mostly on a part time basis, but has recently become a full time Senior Lecturer on the Interior Design programme.
His commercial background is predominantly in Retail, Exhibition and Corporate Interiors both in this country and Australia, working with clients as varied as Adidas, Levi’s, Karrimor, Converse, Berghaus, Dr Martens, Firetrap, JD Sports and HP Retail.
He has worked for Checkland Kindleysides, Knox Associates, Ratcliffe Fowler, MBBD Retail (in Sydney, Australia) and until a few years ago, was a freelance design consultant for Briggs Hillier, Mynt, and other local design companies.
He recently completed a PGCert HE with a distinction. His research interests lie predominantly in Digital Media Communication and is currently exploring 3D visualisation techniques within CAD, solid modelling and virtual realities, as well supervising a DMU Frontrunner looking at Eye Tracking technologies for the evaluation of interior space. He also has interests in E-Learning and pedagogic aspects of student feedback and was influential in setting up AV feedback techniques for taught digital projects on the interior design programme, creating individual feedback screencasts from digital project submissions.
He teaches on all the Interior Design BA and MDes Programmes as well as on the MA, and is responsible for all the Visual Communication modules, throughout all 4 years of study. Other areas of teaching include the specialist Retail Pathway in Level 5, external competitions in Level 6 and a cultural studies module in Level 4.
