Managing Equality and Diversity

Module code: HRMG 3202

Module description

This module is designed to explore and debate the concept of equality in the workplace against a backdrop of growing diversity within the labour force. The module identifies and seeks to explain prevailing patterns of segregation and disadvantage in the labour market whilst alerting students to both visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity including race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, class, disability and sexual orientation. Through a series of lectures and tutorials students are encouraged to critically assess the measures instituted by organisations to manage equality and diversity and to consider the business arguments for introducing an equal opportunities policy and/or policies and practices aimed at managing diversity. In addition the module presents the legal framework for equal opportunities in the workplace and provides students with the opportunity to critically evaluate the use of legislation and other forms of statutory intervention aimed at combating inequality.
