Are you in crisis now?
If you are worried about your safety and feel at risk of harming yourself please access help immediately through one of the following services:
If you are registered with the DMU Health Service call +44 (0)116 222 7272 for daytime appointments and NHS 111 for a GP out of hours service. If you are registered with another GP please contact them instead.
Out of hours, students can ring 111 and would be assessed by a GP by phone, directed to further assessment at one of the extended hours hubs or the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) or possibly assessed by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). EMAS run a combined crisis car with the constabulary to make an initial assessment, though this isn't always available.
The hubs can be accessed directly on 0116 36604560 and run during the following hours:
- 8am to 8pm every day at Westcotes Surgery on Fosse Road (nearest)
- 6:30am to 10pm on weekdays and 12pm to 8pm at weekends at Saffron and Belgrave Surgeries
A student presenting with mental health issues would normally be assessed by the GP, but could be assessed by an experienced nurse or paramedic.
In an emergency you can call 999, visit a local NHS walk-in centre or go to A&E at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The emergency department has 24 hour access to mental health support and has the ability to treat any injuries or overdoses.
