DMU’s Trading Floor is a revolutionary space that has been thoughtfully designed to empower the next generation of finance professionals. These impressive facilities provide our students across Leicester Castle Business School’s undergraduate and postgraduate Accounting, Economics and Finance courses with an authentic simulation of financial trading and investing, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the world of work.
Our newly-enhanced Trading Floor is a state-of-the-art space providing a cutting-edge platform for financial education. It serves as a dynamic nexus where theoretical knowledge seamlessly integrates with real-world application in real-time conditions. With access to industry-leading Bloomberg data, students are empowered to bridge the gap between academia and industry, nurturing a generation of finance professionals well-equipped to navigate the complexities of the global economy.
Following a £350k investment, The Trading Floor succeeds the former Trading Room to bring students improved facilities, an increased capacity, and a modern and inspiring environment in which to learn.
Compromising 48 terminals, DMU’s Trading Floor is one of the largest university trading floors in the UK, and provides an inspirational environment in which our students are able to develop and practice the specialist knowledge required in the sector.
Inside the Trading Floor, students can enjoy:
- Two 86-inch teaching screens
- Two ticker tape displays on either side of the room giving live coverage
- Six repeater screens located around the room - increased student capacity from 20 to 48
- Eight hexagonal tables with double monitors per seating space
- Installation of two large internal viewing windows, new flooring, new dimmable LED lighting, new ceiling and upgraded air handling unit
Industry-standard Bloomberg software
Each of our 48 terminals has access to the latest industry-quality Bloomberg and LSEG Workspace/Eikon software, giving our students access to the same information platform used by leading business, financial and government decisions makers and media professionals around the globe.
Bloomberg is an industry-leading software, and use in the Trading Floor will enable students to gain a better understanding of trading, portfolio management, investment banking, corporate finance and financial or economic analysis – key skills employers look for in today’s competitive job market.
I have used LSEG Workspace software, which offers an invaluable opportunity to look at real-life data and produce forecasts. Developing this skill, coupled with constant support and mentoring from my lecturers, I have the confidence to secure an analyst role in the future.
In the Trading Floor, students are guided by a team of passionate academics, who have a wealth of experience to draw on in areas such as investment management, FX hedging, financial advice, real estate forecasting and financial accounting. The vast and varied experiences in the accounting, finance and economic sectors our academics have to draw on enhances the curriculum to give students a professional edge.
With the help of our academics, students will cultivate the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of financial markets. Depending on their course and module choices, students can look forward to learning about:
- Technical and fundamental analysis
- Risk management
- Economic insights
- Supply and demand dynamics
- Market efficiency
- Technical analysis
- The macroeconomic landscape
