Vice-Chancellor to share experiences to inspire leaders of the future

His management has seen De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) rise up the league tables, expand its international agenda and create key partnerships - now Professor Dominic Shellard will share his experiences to inspire leaders of the future.

Students and staff are invited to join the Vice-Chancellor at the first event to be held in Leicester Castle Business School (LCBS) following its recently-completed £4.2 million restoration.

Organised as part of LCBS' Visionary Leadership in Challenging Times series, the event on Wednesday 8 March will include a fireside chat and question-and-answer session exploring how the Vice-Chancellor developed into a leader, key career moments and how he leads through times of change.

The series of events features influential figures in business, sport, education and government from Leicester and beyond, forming part of the professional development of LCBS postgraduate students.

LCBS Principal Professor Dana Brown said: "The aim is to help business students see they can be that person - these are real people who have climbed up the career ladder.

"Students will see that the trajectory to get there is a real one.

"The road to the top is never easy or clear and we want students to understand this, and we also want them to know that they can have setbacks but still achieve success."

The talks focus on challenging times, for example the potential implications of the UK's decision to leave the European Union.

Professor Brown said: "What is interesting is the approach our leaders took, how they acquired the right information, and how they coped with the uncertainties to come to a decision when they couldn't predict the outcome.

"Students will also get to network with the speaker and ask questions. It's very personalised."

The series kicked off in November 2016 with Peter Giblin, chairman of global executive search and management advisory firm the Giblin Company. Other previous speakers have included Nigel Baker, CEO of the Thomson Foundation, Wasim Khan, CEO of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and most recently, Euros Jones-Evans, CEO of the award-winning film and commercial video agency the Tanabi Group.

The Mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, and DMU honorand Rosemary Squire, co-founder of the Ambassador Theatre Group, are among future guests.
