Comparative Housing Research

Professor Jo Richardson is Director for the Centre of Comparative Housing Research in the Faculty of Business and Law.

Jo undertakes research using co-production methods within local communities; her current focus is on policy, planning and practice in housing, and particularly in the accommodation needs for Gypsies and Travellers in Britain.

She is currently working on a negotiation research project focusing on Gypsy and Traveller issues, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Jo’s research assistant and PhD student Janie Codona MBE is talking about her experience of nomadism and education at the University on 4th March 2015 Travelling towards Education by Janie Codona MBE.  

Jo is also working on an evaluation of asset based community development in Leeds as well as an evaluation project focused on support and work readiness in Melton.  

Prof Richardson and colleagues at the Centre for Comparative Housing Research (CCHR), in partnership with housing organisations and the regional board of the professional body the Chartered Institute of Housing, are organising a relay event on campus on 10th March 2015 as part of the Homes for Britain campaign, this demonstrates the links between DMU and the wider local housing community of practice.  

Later in March, Jo is visiting Bucharest at the invitation of the British Embassy to talk about her research on the representation of the Romanian Roma in the media.
