Food at DMU

We provide a range of food and drink outlets across the De Montfort University campus, offering staff and students a variety of sit down and takeaway options throughout the year. Check out the latest menus and opening times by clicking on the relevant options below.

DMU's official catering partner Chartwells operate a number of the food outlets across the campus, as well as providing click & collect and delivery services through the new app, look for ‘UniFoodHub’ in the Apple iOS or Google Android app stores.

  1. Food Village

    The Food Village is the main dining facility for the university and is located at the heart of the campus within the Vijay Patel Building, on the crossroads of Mill Lane and The Gateway. The Food Village offers a wide range of menus which incorporate breakfast, lunch and dinner. Different food concepts and offers are available daily at our hot food counters, alongside everyday favourites such as sandwiches, snack pots, crisps & confectionary.

     Our three hot food counters offer the following options:

    • Pizza & Core Dishes (jackets, soup and pasta)
    • Bamboo (Pan Asian inspired hearty and fiery food concepts, full of flavours from the East)
    • Hola Pollo (Inspired by the flavours of Peru, offering a range of Halal chicken and vegetarian dishes with sides) runs Mon-Thurs from our Halal Kitchen
    • Khana Khana (A weekly special featuring homemade classic curry dishes) runs each Friday from our Halal Kitchen

    The Food Village is also home to most of our pop-up events, showcasing new food and drink concepts in creative ways – keep an eye on our social media pages or in the Food Village for information on upcoming events! 

  2. Riverside Cafe

    Located at the western side of the university within the Vijay Patel Building, overlooking the River Soar, SKVP @ Riverside Cafe has its own unique ambiance and a menu that focuses on sustainable vegetarian and vegan Mumbai-style Street food. SKVP which stands for Shree Krishna Vada Pav, features Maharashtrian and pan-Indian cuisine, with fresh, customisable, and affordable dishes.

  3. Coffee House

    Coffee House is located just off Hawthorne Square, within the Hugh Aston Building. This is the perfect place grab a freshly brewed Costa coffee alongside all day hot and cold snacking and hot pots throughout the day. Grab a caffeine hit when its needed with the full Costa hot drinks menu and seasonal special drinks. Then refuel yourself so you’re ready for the day ahead, with freshly baked pastries and warm filled breakfast croissants first thing, or enjoy our hot pot meals, soup pots and baked in-house Proper Cornish pies and pasties from 11am. We’ve also got that sugar fix covered, with a selection of whole cakes, tray bakes, cookies and loaf cakes available throughout the day.

  4. Kimberlin Library Cafe

    The Library Cafe sits within the Kimberlin Library, giving you the caffeine and energy boost you need while studying, researching or revising. Proudly serving Starbucks’ coffee alongside cold savoury snacks, sausage rolls and protein pots, we’ve also got your sweet treats covered with a range of tray bakes, muffins and cookies.

  5. Simply Fresh

    Your handy on-campus shop, stocking all the essentials, whether it’s a quick and easy dinner, a grab-and-go lunch or an energy boosting snack. Situated within the Campus Centre Building, you can also access the shop from Mill Lane. The store features freshly baked savoury and sweet snacks, ‘Costa to Go’ hot drinks, and a huge range of international products, sourced from across the world, together with all the staples you may need including bread, milk and pasta.

  6. Subway

    Whether you’re looking for a 6” or footlong, when you see the Subway sign you know what to expect…..freshly baked breads and your sandwich served just how you like it! Located within the Campus Centre Building, you can also access Subway direct from the top of Mill Lane. For the ultimate treat, Subway is now live on Deliveroo for delivery right to your door. 

  7. Coffee Hut

    Located inside the Campus Centre Building, Coffee Hut is the home of our daily home baked muffins, served warm straight from the oven. Compliment your Starbucks coffee boost with our freshly baked breakfast muffin or home baked muffin of the week, available from 11am and prepared daily by our chefs, be quick though as once they’re gone, they’re gone!

  8. Digital Breakfast

    The digital breakfast is available to order through the Uni Food Hub app (available on Android and iOS), the Food Village kiosks or online. Choose from a variety of options such as build your own breakfast and the delicious Heinz breakfast options. Eat in, click and collect and delivery to select locations are available. To order open the Uni Food Hub app and select your preferred service option. Add your items to the cart and select checkout.
