Matthew Vaughan - Fine Art BA (Hons)

The facilities available during my Fine Art BA (Hons) studies were fantastic. The on-campus workshops housed all the machinery and tools you could possibly need and the experienced technicians are always on hand to help.

I have been lucky enough to go on two faculty led trips with #DMUglobal. My trips to Cyprus and New York were made possible by bursaries from the programme which helped us to fund these trips.

The course offered a lot of support and advice in preparing for life as an artist outside university with many talks by alumni and talks on self-employment etc. The course also provides you with an outward facing website that you develop through the course ready for when you graduate. I have been able to create a body of work that before my time at DMU, I would never have dreamed of creating let alone the facilities to materialise it.

My favourite module was ‘Art Practice and Presentation’ and this was the practical aspect to the course which I enjoyed the most as it centred around improving and developing my own personal practice.

I have volunteered at the Two Queens art gallery which was set up by DMU Fine Art alumnus in the cultural quarter of Leicester for a number of exhibitions from late 2015. I volunteered in the city wide arts festival, Silver Vine Arts trail, whilst also being an exhibiting artist.

The best thing about DMU is freedom of expression and the support that is available for students.
