Who is the apprenticeship for?

Entrants via this route with be employed into a suitable role in an ambulance service trust and have the support of their employer for the apprenticeship programme. This apprenticeship is currently only available for individuals that are employed by East Midlands Ambulance Service as Technicians.

Delivery model

The apprenticeship route has been designed as a ‘blended learning’ approach. This means that learning material is delivered both off site through the university’s virtual learning environment and on campus through practical workshops, clinical skills sessions, lectures, and simulation sessions. All content is recorded and available on the virtual learning environment at any time. As a result, there is flexibility to cater for different learning needs with a variety of learning experiences.

Apprentices will be encouraged to critically reflect on their own practice while with their employer in order to maximise the learning experience and future development. Clinical experiences and reflection are documented through a portfolio that showcases the apprentice development throughout the programme.

The curriculum has been designed with expert advice from academics, clinicians, service users, and current students to address both the academic and clinical demands of the role.

What is the duration of the apprenticeship?

The duration of the apprenticeship is 3 years, with opportunity to reduce this with recognised prior learning.
