Disability Advice and Support

Disability Advice and Support (DAS) at DMU are a friendly, confidential team that can offer advice and guidance for current students and applicants to the University.

At our University we support the Social Model of Disability and aim to provide individual reasonable adjustments by increasing accessibility and inclusivity.

We aim to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to fully participate in their chosen course and the university experience. We encourage students and applicants to inform us about a disability or medical condition as early as possible, so that relevant support can be arranged for their studies.

The team of Disability Officers and Transition and Retention Officers are based in the Student Gateway. Additional members of the team, the Faculty Disability Officers (FDO's) are based in each faculty building.

The FDO's provide information, advice and guidance to academic colleagues to ensure relevant learning and teaching support recommendations are in place for disabled students.

They also ensure that disabled students are aware of, and know how to access disability support in their faculty. They work with student's right through from the application process to graduation.
The DAS team also work closely with the Mental Health Inclusion team.
