Disability Advice and Support

Disability Advice and Support (DAS) at DMU are a friendly, confidential team that can offer advice and guidance for current students and applicants to the University.

At our University we support the Social Model of Disability and aim to provide individual reasonable adjustments by increasing accessibility and inclusivity.

We aim to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to fully participate in their chosen course and the university experience. We encourage students and applicants to inform us about a disability or medical condition as early as possible, so that relevant support can be arranged for their studies.

The team of Disability Officers and Transition and Retention Officers are based in the Student Gateway. Additional members of the team, the Faculty Disability Officers (FDO's) are based in each faculty building.

The FDO's provide information, advice and guidance to academic colleagues to ensure relevant learning and teaching support recommendations are in place for disabled students.

They also ensure that disabled students are aware of, and know how to access disability support in their faculty. They work with student's right through from the application process to graduation.
The DAS team also work closely with the Mental Health Inclusion team.

If you would like to discuss your needs in relation to disability then please book into a Single Point of Access Appointment (SPA).

You can do this via the on line booking system MyGateway or in person at the Student Gateway reception, ground floor Gateway House.

These daily 30 minute appointments will enable staff to assess your needs and to ensure you have access to the appropriate range of services and resources at the University or via external agencies.

If you think you have a Specific Learning Differences ( dyslexia) book a group screening via the Events tab on My Gateway and put ‘dys’ into the search section and then the sessions will be opened for you to book into.

If you have previously seen the team for an appointment and wish to make contact, please email us at
