Gain international experience

Spending time in another country is a great way to gain international experience. Many DMU students and graduates travel abroad for internships, industry placements, volunteering opportunities, and graduate level jobs.

Benefits of working abroad

  • Experience other cultures
  • Learn or improve on another foreign language
  • Build key skills: Communication, adaptability, initiative and cultural awareness
  • Become highly independent
  • Raise your profile

Points to consider

Making a decision to work abroad is a huge one and you should think about what you want to gain from either doing a short term placement or relocating.

Ensure you have all the information you need to make your final decision. Try asking yourself the following questions:

  • Which country do you want to work in?
  • Do they have the opportunities you are looking for?
  • Do they have visa requirements?
  • What languages do they speak?
  • What accommodation is available?
  • What are the cultural practices in that country?
