Security

Our aim is to ensure that all students and staff are able to study and work in a safe environment 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The section

The section consists of 47 staff the majority being patrolling officers. The campus is patrolled both on foot and in a vehicle and patrols will respond to all calls for assistance.

The university also has a dedicated police officer for the Leicester city campus who holds regular student surgeries.

The control room

The control room is purpose built and houses a comprehensive state of the art CCTVand alarm monitoring system as well as an electronic access control system.

The CCTV covers all areas of the campus and provides reassurance and a safe environment for students and staff. There are also plans to install more cameras both internal and external.

Daily routine

No two days are the same but some of the many varied tasks our officers may be called upon to perform include:

  • Crime prevention advice
  • Safety assessments
  • Investigation of incidents
  • Event organisation and planning
  • Lost property
  • Out of hours access control
  • Emergency service liaison and support
  • Car park control
