First year

Graphic Studies: Context and Communication

develops your practical understanding of the basic graphic language tools, principles, theories and practices of the graphic communication design process; including elements such as composition, colour, typography and image.

Type and Image for Graphic Design

covers varied visualisation processes, underpinned by principles of visual communication. This will enable you to experiment with mark-making, image production, photography and printmaking. You will also explore visual research, recording and observational skills.

Media and Communication Technology for Graphic Design 1

introduces you to the use of software in the production of page design for web and print, providing you with the opportunity to study and develop practical computing skills in the use of industry standard software.

Second year

Integrated Graphic Studies

allows you to test, apply and articulate the concepts and theories learned in earlier modules, in order to explore and develop your own creative pathway.

Applied Graphic Studies

will develop your image-making and communication skills through advanced visualising techniques. You will chose a combination of two options which reflect your interests to consolidate your pathway through the course.

Media and Communication Technology for Graphic Design 2

will further develop your knowledge of computer software in the production of graphic design artwork for print and the web. You will be introduced to software for vector image generation and time-based media.

Third year

Major Negotiated Pathway Projects

allows you to work on a design process that reflects external professional practice, from briefing to delivery, following a graphic design, illustration or photography pathway.

Creative Competition Projects

provides you with a unique opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the creative process in national and international design competitions and deal with real world design situations.

Applied Professional Practice Studies

introduces you to the basic knowledge and skills needed to understand graphic design and illustration professional practice. This includes knowledge of the commercial aspects of design practice.
