This module introduces you to the history, aetiology and key psychological theories relating to mental health and abnormal development. It develops a critical awareness of the psychological, social, cultural and biological influences that shape definitions of abnormality and the understanding of specific mental health disorders. You will examine biopsychosocial, medical and cognitive-behavioural perspectives to critically evaluate the causes, correlates and consequences of psychopathology.

Why does misinformation spread, inequalities persist, and people continue to consume in ways they know may cause harm? This module explores contemporary issues including misinformation and disinformation online, fast fashion, the psychology of obesity, refugee representations, and invisible homelessness. Cyberpsychology explores the interaction of digital technology with the human user. This module focuses on the implications of cyberspace and Internet-dependent technologies to human psychology and behaviour.
