Disability support

The Disability Advice and Support (DAS) service supports students with a wide range of physical and sensory disabilities, medical conditions and specific learning differences (SpLD). This includes helping students apply for funding to access support for:

  • Human support, such as a note taker for teaching sessions
  • A digital voice recorder
  • A specialist study tutor to help improve and plan the structure of essays
  • IT software

Each faculty has a disability officer (FDO) to help students and provide information, advice and guidance to academic colleagues and ensure they are aware of learning and teaching support recommendations for disabled students. Current FDOs are:

Libraries and Learning Service also has a disability support team which is available to provide assistance to users with a disability, a specific learning difference, such as dyslexia, or medical condition that affects their ability to study. Services provided include:

  • Parking spaces for Blue Badge holders
  • Ramp access to Kimberlin Library
  • Automatic doors
  • Extended loans from the library
