Contracts in Media and Entertainment Law - this module aims to provide you with a broad introduction to contracts in media and entertainment law, supporting non-lawyers and/or those without a legal background. It provides you with a firm understanding of legal writing, including syllogistic reasoning, ensuring that lawyers/legal background students entering the course are prepared to work at a Masters (FHEW 7) level.
Intellectual Property Rights and the (New) Media – gain an understanding of contemporary intellectual property rights, including copyright law, patents, trademarks and confidentiality. This module analytically assesses UK and European law, as well as international legal frameworks.
IT, Social Media and the Law - this module aims to provide students with an understanding of contemporary developments related to information technology and social media. This includes everything from the statutory rights of legal users, through to legal controversies of the internet and privacy within the Electronic Age.
Arbitration and Dispute Resolution - this module looks to provide a broad understanding of litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution processes. This is in view of the importance of alternative dispute resolution to the media and entertainment industries.
Advertising Law – examine the law relating to the regulation of advertising and the freedom of expression, within the media and entertainment industries.
Ethics, Values and the Media - explore the legal controversies of media ethics, including regulation and freedom of the press. You’ll scrutinize contemporary case studies, and emerging case law relevant to the media and entertainment industries.
Data Protection – analyse the legal issues concerning classification of personal data and the main pieces of legislation affecting data protection in the digital age.
Dissertation - you must also undertake a dissertation, providing an invaluable opportunity to work in depth on a particular aspect of the law. You will need to enhance your technical knowledge and critical awareness in a subject of your choice.
