Minor Injury Management

The module is aimed at healthcare practitioners who will be professionally supported in an active interventionist role in the management of minor injuries in a clinic or surgery setting, or an unscheduled care or ‘out of hours’ environment.

This will include:

  • Emergency department and walk-in centre staff
  • Primary care centre staff
  • Emergency care practitioners
  • May include practice nurses and community nurses.

It incorporates the presentation and immediate management or referral of patients who present with a range of minor injuries, and includes wound closure techniques and x-ray investigation and interpretation of minor musculoskeletal trauma.

Entry Criteria

  • Effective registration with the NMC / HPC or other relevant professional body. ESSENTIAL
  • Undertaken successful level 4/5 academic study. ESSENTIAL
  • Currently be employed in practice and have the support of their manager in undertaking the module. ESSENTIAL
  • Have a named mentor in clinical practice throughout the duration of the module. ESSENTIAL
