Perioperative and Surgical Practice

The module holistically explores patient care throughout the perioperative journey allowing care and service providers a more encompassing understanding of the range pf patients’ surgical pathways focusing on quality, safety and encouraging teamwork. Pre-assessment, day care, ward and theatres are encouraged to understand and appreciate each other’s role resulting in better patient care and safety. It is also a platform that enables those in the multi-professional perioperative team to debate and discuss contemporary issues which impact on patient experience and aspects of their care including safety issues. Exploration of surgical services and socio-economic factors associated to patient care are also analysed. Students must be registered with the NMC / HPC or other relevant professional body and ideally practicing in a perioperative area.
